Our Program

The Students Teaching Students (STS) program's mission is to equip and enable Penn State undergraduates to teach official courses under the guidance of a faculty champion. From analyzing the music of Kanye West to sharing the intricacies of Dutch politics, student-led courses fill gaps in existing curriculum and offer new learning opportunities to curious minds. Established as a student-led program, STS partners with both the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence and Student Engagement Network.

STS courses are designed to be a valuable and memorable addition to a student’s educational experience at Penn State. Usually one credit, student-led courses are electives that prioritize student engagement and fostering peer-to-peer collaboration. Courses are listed across various colleges and are open to all Penn State students.

The role of Student Instructor is the core of the Students Teaching Students program. Student Instructors (“SIs”) create, design, develop, and instruct their own official course at Penn State under the guidance of a Faculty Champion. Throughout the entire STS program, Student Instructors are responsible for multiple elements from the course creation process to the instruction of the course itself.
